Why we love artisan made products?
The most common question asked to us has always been – what so special about the hand printed fabric or hand woven textiles. Why shouldn’t consumers just buy something which looks beautiful but also suits their pocket, accessibility and provides a range of choices, as that pretty much serves the purpose.
Well, to all of those thoughts and for the curious minds our journey hasn’t always been the same. We explored our way into this lifestyle and it is still an ongoing and evolving process. Not only with “house of tarasvi” but also in our day to day lives. It started with an understanding of fabrics and various art forms. How something felt so right on your skin that you did not want to go back to something which did not feel right. How a piece of work or print appealed way more than a digital print or a machine made motif on a dress. The understanding of art forms began and there was no looking back. We forayed our way into the world handcrafted lifestyle products.
Originating from India there was huge opportunity to see something new at every place. Two adjacent villages may offer you a different version of the same art.
These work pieces did not just go in and out of a preset machine. There are humans who sit with these pieces and devote themselves throughout the day to create it. Some for the love of it and some for survival. But in the process they are preserving history, culture, tradition and folk lore. They are also doing something which maybe inadvertent yet generous, they are not leaving a mindless carbon footprint like many other fast fashion brands around the world.
As the search and fondness of art in fashion and jewelry originated from where “house of tarasvi” buds itself i.e. Rajasthan, we certainly have immense love for the artisan culture of this state. But once the journey began it has led us to discover other Indian states and the glory of their artisan culture and subsequently introduced us to art forms around the globe. We take inspiration from every new place we visit and every new artisan we interact with. This is now going to be a never ending search; a journey of lifestyle, love for the beauty of details and the perfections & imperfections that only human hand can create.
Apparel and jewelry for both men and women can be the ultimate way of expressing themselves without speaking or writing. Here, comes in the word fashion, which has not only for decades but centuries been a dominant part of the society.
Just for instance, it could be an obvious assumption that fashion cannot come out of a fabric like ‘khadi’ which was born for a mission of survival. But we have come a long way, and more and more people have joined the wagon where cloth is not merely used to cover oneself but also to express oneself. And fabrics have traveled the journey of fashion. Various handwoven and handloom fabrics which were once used only as wraps are now being used to create some high end fashion and resort wear collections. We at “house of tarasvi” create and curate artisan made handcrafted textiles and apparels which we hope turn into fashion statements around the world. Not only for their looks and designs but for the stories they carry.
